On Tuesday, September 7, 1971, a head-end collision occurred between a westbound freight train and the locomotives of an eastbound freight train on the Grand Trunk Western Railroad at North Johnson Avenue, in Pontiac, Michigan. Three members of the train crews were killed and three were injured.
